A four-car garage in Burns with a two-bedroom apartment above it, set into a wooded slope. The outside is poplar board and batten under a charcoal standing seam roof, with black Marvin windows and a cupola at the ridge.

The cupola is open all the way down to the second floor, so daylight reaches the apartment from the top of the building as well as through its walls. Below it, timber trusses frame the gables, and the deck stands out toward the woods on timber posts.

The owners finished the apartment themselves after the build. The interior photographs are from before drywall, while the rafters still ran open to the cupola and the light came down through the frame.

Top notch experience from start to finish. Great crew, with outstanding craftsmanship across every stage. Couldn’t be happier with the experience, from patient planning, to steady execution. Numerous tradesmen have been on site since their build and each one has spotted details to point out and admire the quality and care that went into the construction.
