On the bluff above the Duck River.

A family retreat at the top of a bluff above the Duck River, with pasture below and trees on every other side. There’s a screen porch with a wood-burning stone fireplace, a deck out over the drop, a two-car garage, and a basement.

Inside, the great room runs up to a vaulted ceiling, with a gas fireplace at one end and windows along the rest. Above it is a bunk loft with four built-in beds, and each one has its own shelf, light, charging outlet, curtain, and drawers underneath, so four people can go to bed at four different times.

The basement stairs are outside. But there’s a trap door in the hallway floor, made to disappear into the boards, with a ladder under it. When a storm comes through, nobody has to go out into it to get downstairs.
